Hi Hybird air review,
I live on a small lake and when I saw the ad for the Hybird air I thought this could be the perfect model. I was a little skeptical at first, an electric water plane did not seem to be a match, but I thought I'd give it a try. When it arrived I got out my usual assemblage of modeling gear; hobby knife, epoxy, sand paper, mixing sticks and single edge blades. Then I opened the box and began assembly and realized I needed none of my stuff. Everything was included (and the epoxy was really nice I need to get some bigger tubes of that!) There was minimal assembly to do basically glue the wings on and that was it! They fit great and are very easy to align. Within minutes it was done, charging the battery took longer than putting this little water bird together.
After the Lipo battery was charged with the included charger I put the AA batteries in the transmitter (also of nice quality) checked the servo trim and movement (all perfect) and headed for the lake. It was a little windy but it looked so ready to fly I though what the heck. My son James put it in the lake and I hit the throttle. It got up on step very fast and the rudder is surprisingly effective. I let it run out a bit to make sure it was up to flying speed and pulled on the elevator and she was up and going. The wind turbulence buffeted it around a bit but the ailerons work very well so it was easy to get it smoothed out.
I flew it around for a good 10 minutes just to feel it out. It was a lot of fun! I seemed pretty aerobatic. When I slowed it down it is very light so I could basically hover it in the wind. The water landing was as easy as any runway landing maybe easier because I had the whole lake as a landing strip. I taxied it back, charged it up and let the kid try it. He had the same fun flight I did, I might have to buy another one for him!
Thanks park flyer!
