Mustang P51-D Customer Feedback

t was nice talking with you today about your P51.

First, please review the pictures I attached. It shows the modification I made to increase speed and fun. The pictures shows I installed an Eflite 370 brushless motor (with 4100 KV) using the provided mounting plate that came with the motor. I used a common sense 12 amp speed control plugged into a micro Berg RX, so I could utilize my 8103 JR radio. I used the same 64 tooth gear box that came with the P51. When I took out the gear box I ran a bead of epoxy around the edge of the firewall in the plane which better attaches it's self to the inside bulk head of the plane, making it much stronger in case of a unexpected nose dive into the ground. This really strengthened everything forward of the gearbox mount and eliminated any minor vibration when the motor is running at full speed for hand launch.

I tweaked a couple of things using the programming in the radio. I slaved the elevator to the ailerons so when I turned I got a slight up elevator eliminating the hand adjustment when making a bank turn. I set the elevator in the radio at 20% up. I also set the travel throws for the ailerons at 150% which allowed me to do rolls and maneuvers the plane could not perform under the old settings.

The outcome of my modification is nothing less then amazing. It would leap out of your hand and move at a least double the speed of the brushless motor. It was all I could handle just to keep it in the air. It would fly great at half throttle and perform all the loops I wanted. Anyway the plane flew great but because of operator error it is sadly in my garbage can. I have ordered another P51 because this is such a good deal and a great plane to fly in a small field or as a first low wing airplane. Just please get in the spare parts.

My brother just learned to fly rc a month before he bought his P51. He purchased hobby zone cub RTF. He went to the local park and just started flying and in a week he was bored with the cub. So he saw my P51 and thought for the money (he had nothing to loose) he could take a chance and buy it in hopes of learning how to fly a low wing airplane. When the plane arrived he went right down to the field and on his first try he flew it without any hard landings or crashes. He has only had a few rough landings that resulted in damage. The fuse broke in half when it hit the ground at full speed after flying it for 2 weeks. I took it home and epoxed it back together for him and it was as good as new after a light touch up with some non-toxic silver paint. Remember you cannot use oil based paints on Styrofoam because it will melt the plane. I learned this the hard way last year. My brother loves the plane and I think it is a great way to learn how to fly a low wing aircraft at a very affordable price.

I would love it if you had more RTF war birds. It would be great if someone would do a Stuka or a multi-engine bomber that was RTF.

Thanks,

Vern
